Cape’s Blaine finishes second in 200 IM at state swim meet; Seahawk girls earn top 10 finish

Cape Coral senior Melissa Blaine finished second in the 200 individual medley in the FHSAA Class 3A State Championships on Saturday in Ocala.

Blaine also brought home a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle.

Jacob Terry of North Fort Myers posted the best boys finish for West Zone schools, taking fifth place in the 50 freestyle.

Blaine also contributed to the Seahawks’ 200 medley relay team (along with Ajedandra Figueroa, Emma Best and Daynna Franklyn) that came in eighth; and swam with Best, Franklyn and Sophie Pellegrino to a seventh place in the 400 freestyle relay.

Cape Coral finished 10th overall in the girls competition.

Best was 10th in the 200 freestyle and 13th in the 100 butterfly. Sydney Eastman took 15th in the 100 butterfly and Figueroa was 15th in the 100 backstroke.

Emma Beckman of North Fort Myers finished 15th in 1-meter diving.

Cape Coral’s Hayden Tedhams came in ninth in the boys 500 freestyle.

The Seahawks’ boys 200 medley relay team of Tedhams, Mason Menassa, Cole Wilson and Jacob Cainas was 16th.

The top 16 finishers in each event scored points for their team.
