North Fort Myers sent two tennis players to the state Class 3A championships Tuesday with wins in the Region 3A-13 tournament.

Bishop Verot claimed two spots in the 2A state tourney.

North’s Ronald Wong won at No. 1 singles, then partnered with Red Knights teammate Duncan Fisher to take the No. 1 doubles title in competition at Cape Coral High School.

Wong and Fisher advance directly to the state 3A tournament in singles and doubles. That tournament takes place in Seminole County April 25-27.

The Class 2A tournament is April 27-29, and will feature Bishop Verot netters Rod Dormeier and Kevin Johns. Dormeier won the No. 1 singles title in District 2A-12, and Johns joined him to take the No. 1 doubles crown.

Bishop Verot won both boys and girls team titles in 2A-12.

Despite also having the top team score (12) in 3A-12, North Fort Myers did not advance as a team to next week’s Region 3A-4 tournament. The Red Knights failed to qualify by not having five singles players.

As a result, Riverdale edged out Cape Coral 9-8 to take home the boys’ district title.

North Fort Myers’ girls easily won their District 3A-12 championship.

SOFTBALL

Mariner 10, Cape Coral 0: Cheyenne Waddell pitched a six-inning three-hitter, striking out 10. Taylor Cotoni had two RBI for Mariner (8-9), and Katie Campbell and Marissa Sarantapoulas drove in a run each. Cape fell to 4-9.

Ida Baker 27, East Lee County 0 (3 innings): Jadaly Mejia had six RBI with a triple and a homer, and scored four Bulldogs runs. Alexalys Torres scored three runs and drove in three. Meagan Kunkel had a three-inning perfect game.

Bonita Springs 20, Island Coast 0 (3 innings): Island Coast is 0-12.

Bishop Verot 11, Palmetto Ridge 0 (5 innings): Josee Fry was 3-for-3 with a double, scoring three runs and driving in three. Madeline Knaak drove in four runs with two hits including a homer. The Vikings improved to 9-7.

North Fort Myers 5, Riverdale 2 (10 innings): Candice Chime drove in three Red Knights (12-3) runs in a marathon contest. Kendall Wylie pitched the entire game, striking out 11.

BASEBALL

Mariner 3, Cape Coral 0: Mason Blackburn drove in two of the Tritons’ runs, and DJ Dwire didn’t allow a run for his third win of the season. He had eight strikeouts. The result gave Mariner a 10-9 record and Cape a 4-12 mark.

Island Coast 9, Bonita Springs 0: The Gators (13-5) are on a seven-game winning streak.

SW Florida Christian 6, Oasis 3: Brandon Bova-Cipolla had a double, and Kavanaugh Brady and Noah Pinney each scored a run for the Sharks (4-8). Two Oasis errors led to two unearned SWFC runs.

North Fort Myers 8, Riverdale 3: The Red Knights (12-8) are now 6-2 in away games.

Ida Baker 42, East Lee County 3 (3 innings): Baker is 11-8. East Lee (0-8) has been outscored 162-17 this season.
