There were numerous top performances from student-athletes in the The Breeze coverage area and now it’s up to readers to decide who will earn top honors for the month.

Nominees for February include:

• Chantal Ferrer, Weightlifting, Cape Coral Seahawks: Ferrer took home the 2A-4 Regional title in both traditional and snatch lifting at 183 lbs. She lifted 175 lbs for her bench and 185 lbs for her clean in traditional, and 125 in snatch. She was set to represent the Seahawks in the 2A State Championships.

• Quentin Wimbush, Basketball, North Fort Myers Red Knights: The guard averaged 23 points per game in three wins for the Red Knights, including two 25-point performances. His best game came against Oasis where he added seven boards, five assists and six steals.

• Jaxon Mcardale-Sykes, Basketball, Oasis Sharks: The guard averaged 24 points per game over three contests for the Sharks, including a whopping 35-point night in a victory over Riverdale.

• Jillian Haataja, Soccer, Bishop Verot Vikings: Haataja helped lead the Vikings girls soccer team to a 3A-10 District Championship when she scored three goals and assisted on another in an 8-0 over CSN.

• Maximo Gorosito, Soccer, Mariner Tritons: Gorosito helped the Tritons reach the FHSAA 5A Region 3 final when he scored a hat trick as part of a 5-1 Mariner win over St. Petersburg in the regional semifinal match.

• Sarah Paddock, Soccer, Mariner Tritons: Paddock scored the lone and decisive goal on a penalty kick in the Tritons’ FHSAA 5A Region 3 semifinal victory versus North Fort Myers, sending Mariner to the regional final which they won.

• Chris Minto, Wrestling, Mariner Tritons: Minto boasts an astounding 45-0 record this season and took home the 2A-11 district crown in the 138-pound division last week.

• Annabelle Barbot, Soccer, Mariner Tritons: Barbot scored the lone goal in the Tritons 1-0 win over Lake Minneola in the state semifinal to propel them to the FHSAA girls soccer 5A State Championship match.

Voting for February Athlete of the Month voting runs until Thursday, March 10, at noon.

Athlete of the Month nominees are comprised of the Breeze’s staff-selected Athletes of the Week for that respective month.
