The Tommy Bohanon Foundation is fulfilling its mission of changing the lives and futures of at-risk youth in the Southwest Florida community. Within one week, the foundation hosted two events to raise more than $150,000 that will support local non-profit organizations and programs.

The Tommy Bohanon Foundation will present Blessings in a Backpack of Southwest Florida, Ronald McDonald House and Southeastern Guide Dogs each with a check for $20,000 to support their initiatives. The remainder will be used to fund youth scholarships, camps and programs hosted by the Tommy Bohanon Foundation.

“Our sponsors and donors have been instrumental in helping us get to where we are,” said former NFL player Tommy Bohanon, founder of the Tommy Bohanon Foundation. “To have the support of so many prominent businesses such as Titan Contracting, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, Lee Drywall, and Garramone Plastic Surgery shows their commitment to helping our community and the children within it.”

On April 30, the Tommy Bohanon Foundation hosted a silent and live auction at Nor-Tech’s 30th Anniversary party held at The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village in Tarpon Point and invited a handful of other nonprofits to participate. A fundraising goal of $60,000 was surpassed, raising a total of $80,000 thanks to the generosity of the donors. The funds were equally split between the Tommy Bohanon Foundation, Blessings in a Backpack of Southwest Florida, Ronald McDonald House and Southeastern Guide Dogs to support their local community outreach.

Tommy Bohanon Foundation’s annual Playmakers Tailgate Party held May 1 at the Cape Coral Yacht Club raised $73,000, surpassing its goal of $60,000. Funds raised benefit the foundation’s youth scholarship fund, sports equipment grants, Man UP Seminar and football camp. Nor-Tech, Garramone Plastic Surgery and Titan Contracting were some of the proud event sponsors.

At the Playmakers Tailgate Party, the Tommy Bohanon Foundation awarded two $10,000 scholarships through the Southwest Florida Community Foundation. High school seniors Marco Medrano of South Fort Myers High School and Mariah Figueroa of Oasis High School were the recipients of the scholarships, which will help them achieve success in continued education. Marco is a first-generation high school graduate and college student, and Mariah is a first-generation college student. Both of their families are immigrants to the United States of America. In addition, the foundation presented the Most Valuable Playmaker Award to Justin Lee, VP of Lee Drywall for his continuous support, and Hall of Fame Sponsor Award to Clint Green, owner of Titan Contracting LLC.

The Tommy Bohanon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young athletes to reach their highest potential on and off the playing field. Former NFL fullback, Tommy Bohanon, returned to his hometown in Southwest Florida to pursue his vision of ending generational poverty for at-risk youth. The foundation funds annual scholarships, sports equipment grants to local high schools, youth football camps, seminars and programs, as well as funding for other local nonprofits.
