Cape downs Mariner in boys basketball showdown

Boys basketball

Cape Coral 73, Mariner 62: The Seahawks (5-9, 2-3 District 5A-11) upended the Tritons (7-5, 2-2), extending Mariner’s losing streak to four games. Cape snapped a 1-4 slide with the victory. On Tuesday, Mariner is home against Gateway Charter and Cape Coral travels to Lehigh.

North Fort Myers 65, Ida Baker 59: A 22-4 third quarter lifted the Red Knights (3-10) over the Bulldogs (7-5). Ida Baker is home against East Lee County and North Fort Myers takes on South Fort Myers on Tuesday.

Bishop Verot 40, Seacrest Country Day 27: The Vikings had balanced scoring, with Carson Beisner’s 12 points and 10 each from Andreas Mantz and Lucas Tejera. Jonah Schwartz had eight rebounds and three steals.

Girls basketball

Ida Baker 48, North Fort Myers 13: With their ninth win of the season, the Bulldogs (9-10) eclipsed Baker’s combined win total of the last four seasons. Ida Baker travels to East Lee County on Tuesday. North Fort Myers (1-8) is home with South Fort Myers on Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Cape Coral 1, Barron Collier 0: Friday’s shutout victory raised the Seahawks’ record to 8-5-1 and lowered Collier’s mark to 7-3-3. Cape Coral is home Tuesday to play Lehigh.

Bishop Verot 8, Seacrest Country Day 0: The Vikings cruised to their sixth win of the year (6-3-2), dispatching Seacrest (2-5-2). Bishop Verot’s next match is Jan. 26 against North Port.

Boys soccer

Ida Baker 4, North Fort Myers 0: Baker improved to 4-8-3, including 2-1-1 in District 5A-11. The Red Knights were left at 0-16, 0-3. The Bulldogs host Fort Myers on Tuesday, and North plays at South Fort Myers that same evening.

Late Thursday

Boys soccer

Ida Baker 0, Oasis 0 (tie): Neither side could find the back of the net, leaving Oasis 6-4-2 and Ida Baker 3-8-3. The Sharks play Thursday at South Fort Myers.

Girls soccer

Cape Coral 3, Cypress Lake 0: The Seahawks (7-5-1 overall) improved to 3-1 in District 5A-11 with their win against the Panthers (7-6-1, 1-4).
