Cape girls basketball team stumbles against Golden Gate, slips to 9-4

Boys soccer

Mariner 4, Ida Baker 1: Santiago Guerrero’s two goals and an assist led the way as the Tritons reached the 10-win plateau (10-1-0) for the season. Isaac Sandoval and Sammy Bedoya also scored, and Nicco Gerke contributed two assists. Ida Baker (3-7-1) is idle until Jan. 8 at North Port.  As for Mariner, next up is a home match Monday evening with Immokalee.

Girls basketball

Golden Gate 51, Cape Coral 43: The Seahawks dropped to 9-4 with Friday’s defeat.  On Tuesday, the Seahawks travel to Marco Island Academy.

Boys basketball

Bishop Verot 57, East Lee County 25: Ethan Tipton scored 16 points, Andreas Mantz 14 and Carson Beisner for the Vikings (3-3).  LaBelle comes to Bishop Verot on Tuesday.

Thursday

Boys soccer

Island Coast 3, Dunbar 1: Jimsanderson Midy scored two goals and made an assist, leading the Gators (5-3-2) past Dunbar.  Jose Rojas added a goal and Richard Rodriguez an assist.

Mariner 4, North Port 1: Santiago Guerrero scored twice, and Nico Casallas and Nicco Gerke also finding the net for the Tarpons (9-1). On Friday, Mariner was set for a home match against Ida Baker.

Oasis 2, Gateway Charter 0: The Sharks have won four of five to stand 5-2-1.  Oasis plays its match Jan. 5 at home against Southwest Florida Christian.

Palmetto Ridge 4, Bishop Verot 1: The Vikings (4-4-2) will take a break before facing Immokalee on Jan. 6 at Bishop Verot.

LaBelle 4, North Fort Myers 0: After the first of the year, the Red Knights (0-11) play at Evangelical Christian on Jan. 5.

Girls soccer

Mariner 9, Ida Baker 1: Thursday’s win by the Tritons gave them a 9-1 record, while the Bulldogs slipped to 3-6.  Mariner plays Plant City Durant on Monday in a tournament. Ida Baker’s next scheduled game is January 8 at Immokalee.

North Fort Myers 3, Bishop Verot 0: North continued its strong start with a shutout of the Vikings (3-2-1).  After the holiday break, the Red Knights travel to Evangelical Christian School. Bishop Verot is schedules for a home match with Oasis on Jan. 7. 

Dunbar 3, Island Coast 1: The Gators (2-7) next play Jan. 8 at Immokalee.

Girls basketball

Ida Baker 51, Oasis 24: The Bulldogs (5-6) started the game on a 15-0 run to open the game.  With the loss, the Sharks enter the Christmas break at 2-9.  Ida Baker faces Lemon Bay in a tournament beginning on Dec. 28.

Boys basketball

Ida Baker 61, Oasis 33: The Bulldogs evened their mark at 3-3 with the victory.  On Saturday, Ida Baker travels to Gateway Charter.  Oasis (0-9) is off until Jan. 4 with Desoto County.

Imagine School 74, Island Coast 71: Five Gators scored in double figures: Naijhae Cook with 16 points, Alex Padilla 15, Cameron Ball and Cole Koch 12 each and Gabriel Morales 10.  Koch also had 10 rebounds. 

Girls basketball

Imagine School North Port 58, Island Coast 35: Wednesday’s loss left the Gators 2-7. Island Coast’s next game is Jan. 7 at Cypress Lake.
