The new year is off to a great start as we welcomed back our students and staff after the holiday break. We continue to develop new plans and improve existing ones so all students are successful.

As we navigate through the pandemic in 2021 it will be another challenging year for education and learning. There is still hope. The vaccine is being distributed throughout our community. Just this week, more than 200 of our 65-and-over employees received the vaccine thanks to a partnership with the Florida Department of Health in Lee County. The World is getting closer to getting back to new normal. We continue to practice our health and safety measures and precautions and encourage students to participate in face-to-face learning as we know that classroom instruction will best support students as they work to achieve his/her highest personal potential.

During the month of January, we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday.

This year, the District had our very own Keeper of the Dream recipient as Ms. Gwynetta Gittens, District 5 School Board Member, was honored at the annual MLK breakfast. The event was held virtually this year and was sponsored by Alpha Phi Fraternity Inc.

I would personally like to congratulate her for achieving the dream of being the first elected minority school board member in 2018. She gives hope for all students as their future is bright.

We will continue to do what we think is best for our students and we will inspire them to learn and grow even through the pandemic obstacles.
