To the editor:

As we read and see the illegal immigrant crisis that is happening to the United states one has to wonder what is the solution. History tells us that this country welcomed people from all over the world. We welcomed them with open arms, took care of them, fed them and welcomed them to their neighborhoods and let they enjoy the new life they sought.

Now we read of these new immigrants disrespecting the freedom they seek. Our laws have been disrespected with acts of robbery, rape, murder, assaults, driving while intoxicated, to name a few of the crimes being perpetrated by some of these same people seeking freedom from the countries from which they fled.

I don’t know what any solution is available to correct the current immigration policy except to close the borders, bring back the old laws of having someone sponsor your admittance to the U.S like both my parents did when they immigrated to this country.

This open-door policy is not working; it seems that the countries some immigrants are fleeing from are welcoming their departure.

What I see now is, with the destruction of historical statues and changes in history, it’s time to dismantle the Statue of Liberty.

It seems those who come here and break our laws are not embracing her, they are spitting on her.
