Don’t trash the Cape

By Staff | Jun 17, 2021

To the editor:

I am, once again, writing a letter to the editor of the Cape Coral Breeze with high hopes that our city leaders read and act on the growing problem of roadside trash around the city of Cape Coral.

My spouse and I moved to Cape Coral 5-1/2 years ago and it did not take us long to realize that this city has a serious problem with trash. We see and hear on the news or read in your weekly publication of the Cape Coral Breeze that this city keeps growing and growing and growing and more and more people are moving here all the time. With more people comes more roadside trash!

On Sunday, June 13, I walked from Del Prado Boulevard down Hancock Bridge Parkway to U.S. 41 and back… 8 miles and 10 bags of roadside trash! I picked up no less than 75 plastic water bottles, coffee cups, plastic gloves and masks, fast food containers from various restaurants (is this really how you want to advertise your business? )

Note: Hancock Bridge Parkway is under construction for new water mains and sidewalks and a lot of these coffee cups and water bottles appear to be coming from the work crew. Please people, take your trash home and dispose of it properly.

On Hancock Bridge Parkway alone, we have bulk trash that has laid there for so long that it has grown into the ground. Yes, I have called to have it picked up to no avail.

Attention new homeowners, old homeowners, renters… did you know that you can call Waste Pro at 239-337-0800 to schedule a pick up of bulk trash and if that does not work, you can call Cape Coral Code Compliance at 239-574-0613? Call them! This is their job and our tax dollars are paying them!

In closing, Cape Coral is a city that continues to grow. Let’s not let the roadside trash problem continue to grow with it. Help us keep Cape Coral clean, as all entry signs to our city state!
