Council should reconsider its golf cart ban

By Staff | Apr 29, 2021

To the editor:

I would like to have the City Council reconsider its vote to ban golf carts on side streets.

A lot of people come to Cape Coral to work and possibly retire, and also for the weather. We came here 34 years ago for the same.

My wife and I are now disabled and unable to get out and walk any distance. The doctors said to get out and get some fresh air. There are a lot of people in our boots. A golf cart would be perfect, as some people have found out. Now the city took that right away from us without any real reason.

I would like to ask the city to do comparison on how may people have been killed walking (hit by a car). How many have been killed riding a bike? How many people killed driving or riding in a golf cart? I have never heard of any in 34 years, have you?

Why not issue a permit to any disabled person and handicapped person to use a golf cart on side streets and not main roads? This would be a step in the right direction. There are a lot of seniors who can’t drive but could handle a golf cart.
