Cape parking ban is hitting families hard

By Staff | Aug 13, 2020

To the editor:

In this time of COVID-19 and with more than 45 million people out of work through no fault of their own, many people have had to move in with relatives and friends. Quite a lot of them face homelessness and many others cannot afford food and necessities and have kids to feed as well. Now, in Cape Coral, they must worry where they are going to park?

The elderly and disabled now must walk from their easement or end of their driveway, where the sun bakes their car, or they must move their cars around in 100- degree heat when one or the other needs to go on errands or appointments. We know this because it has happened to us. And we are in our 80s and 90s and one is almost 60 and is disabled.

Even businesses, by law, must make their business accessible to those of us who are disabled but now we cannot do so at our own home?

We have owned and lived in this house for 41 years and find ourselves being forced to live like we live in an HOA. Like the insurance commercial that shows the competitor’s insurance woman saying “violation, violation…” while cutting down the homeowner’s hanging plants.

And those of us who have nice manicured lawns will now have dead grass on the easement.

It is obtuse to think that this is good for the city of Cape Coral, and NO, Mr. Mayor, this is not “nice.” It is ludicrous!
