Michael A. Gennaro

Michael A. Gennaro, 76, of Fort Myers, Florida passed from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on May 11 surrounded by his family and at complete peace with his Lord.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Joanne, his daughter Amy Hume and his son Matthew (Samantha) Gennaro, four grandchildren; Harper Hume, Major, Macklin and Mila Gennaro; his sister Nancy (Thomas Traynor and brother Robert (Cynthia) Gennaro; nieces and nephews and numerous friends in the community. He is predeceased by his sister Susan (Steven) Blumhagen and his parents.

Michael was born in Buffalo, New York to Dorothy and Anthony Gennaro. He was the oldest of their 4 children. He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School. He attended the State University College of Buffalo where he received his B.A. degree in 1970 and an M.A. degree in 1973. He joined VISTA Volunteers and spent one and a half years traveling to Missouri and Nebraska to help start-up community youth projects. He was awarded a Juris Doctor degree in 1977 from Loyola University, New Orleans, Louisiana. While at Loyola, he was a member of the Loyola Law Review. Michael was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1977 and joined the Pavese Law Firm that same year. He became a partner of the firm in 1983. He volunteered his time and talents in various local organizations like Big Brother, Big Sisters, Fort Myers Track Club and was a charter member and past president of the Cape Coral Rotary Club Gold Coast.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Cecilia Catholic Community. A luncheon and celebration of his life will immediately follow at Marian Hall next door to the church.
