Carol Varney Kimble

Carol Varney Kimble, 63, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at her home in Cape Coral. She was born Feb. 22, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of Kenneth James and Nancy Jo (Strittmatter) Varney.

She graduated from Lyme Central High School in Chaumont, N.Y., and was a life-long learner, received numerous degrees and was always studying new interests. She taught college courses in history and anthropology at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, N.Y., and was employed as a financial advisor. During her retirement, she resided in Cape Coral and managed resort properties on Fort Myers Beach.

Her life revolved around her family, and she was always a friend to those in need. She adored her great nephew, Leland, and served as his legal guardian and parent. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, canoeing and spending time on the beach.

She leaves a legacy through her children, Geoffrey (Jim) Doig-Marx of New York, N.Y., Amy (Lester Jr.) Smith of Birmingham, Aal., and Leland Santiago of Cape Coral; her three grandchildren, Deborah, Lester and Elliott; and her great-granddaughter, Lily.

Mrs. Kimble was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Jay Kimble; her parents and her brothers, James Varney and Jeffrey Varney.

She is survived by her sisters, Barbara (Christopher) Wiedman of Cape Coral and Kendra Varney of Fort Myers; her brother, Christopher Varney of Sevierville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is planning a private ceremony at the Sarasota National Cemetery to be followed by a Celebration of Life in Cape Coral.
