Richard Thomas Wunderlich

Richard Thomas Wunderlich Jr., 62, of Alva, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011.

He was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Aug. 22, 1949, to Richard T. Wunderlich, Sr. and Phyllis Moore Wunderlich. He attended grade school in Columbia City, Ind., and graduated in 1967 from Western High School, Russiaville, Ind. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves and proudly served until 1974 as a second lieutenant. He later received his associates and bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He was a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and Southern Police Institute. He retired after 20 years of dedicated service with the Kokomo Police Department in Kokomo, Ind., where he attained the rank of captain. After retirement, he began a successful career in real estate.

He and his wife, Susan, own and operate Team Title Insurance Agency in Lee County, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; his three children, Chance, Jeffery and Kathryn; and mother, Phyllis, all of who reside in Lee County. He has four grandchildren, Madison, Parker, Luke and Maison; and two siblings, David and Steve.

His father preceded him in death.

He had numerous achievements and accomplishments during his successful careers. Those most important to him were his memberships, including the Cape Coral Masonic Lodge# 367, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in Indianapolis and as a member of the Araba Shrine in Fort Myers. He was a committed Lutheran and currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers. He served on numerous boards and chaired endless community service projects throughout his life.

Mr. Wunderlich considered his biggest accomplishment in life his three children, of whom he was so proud. He wanted to be remembered as a gentleman, and he truly was. He loved the water, boating, the beach and golf. He always said he was truly blessed and thankful for everything in life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Arrangements by Fuller Metz Funeral Home.

A reception will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by a service at 1:30 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Fort Myers, Friday, Oct. 14. Following the service there will be a celebration of life at Cypress Lake Country Club, Fort Myers, from 3-5 p.m.
