James E. O’Day

James E. O’Day, 65, of Cape Coral, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008. He was born Jan. 31, 1943, in Queens, N.Y., the son of James and Ellen (Shine) O’Day.

He retired as senior vice president of Delta Dental in 1989 in California. He died peacefully after battling cancer.

He was the loving husband of Dianne (Neis) O’Day; beloved father of James W. (Kim Sullivan) O’Day and Bridget (O’Day) (Sammy) Greco; and devoted grandfather to Jessica, Anthony, Nicholas, Julia and Jimmy Jr.

He will be deeply missed by his sister, Ellen (Dick) Wood; brother-in-law, James M. (Ilona) Neis; sister-in-law, Melanie Neis (Kent) Ryden; brother-in-law, Jon S. (Jyl) Neis; nephews, John Neis, Danny Bartoli Jr., Jon Neis and Tom Wood; nieces, Mary Ellen Mattera, Dawn McGuinness and Nicole Neis; and the many friends whose lives were touched by his humor, generosity and kindness.

He was predeceased by Bridget (Ward) O’Day.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Metz Chapel of Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Homes. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Andrew Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hope Hospice.
