Meeting time change, other items on council agenda

By MEGHAN BRADBURY - | Apr 30, 2024

City Council is expected to vote on a revised meeting calendar during its Wednesday meeting, a topic brought forth by Councilmember Jessica Cosden, after a consensus was reached to change the meeting times to 9 a.m. for action meetings.

The initial conversation was had at the April 10 workshop, as Cosden said business should take place during business hours – a reason to change the time to a morning meeting. There were two council members that were not in favor of moving the start time to 9 a.m. — Councilmembers Tom Hayden and Richard Carr.

Part of the consent agenda, which does not have to be pulled to pass, includes approval of staff direction to move forward with “required actions to bring to council for a vote to change regular meeting times moving forward from 4:30 p.m. to 9 a.m.”

The consent agenda also includes two resolutions, 141-24 and 142-24, agreements between the city and the Florida Department of Transportation.

Resolution 141-24 is for the construction, construction engineering inspection and improvements of a 5-foot sidewalk on the west side of Skyline Boulevard from Cape Coral Parkway to Eldorado Parkway for up to $628,188 in federal aid funds provided by FDOT. The project is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2029.

The second resolution, 142-24, is for both sides of Andalusia Boulevard from SR 78 to Northeast 11th Terrace. The project is eligible for up to $1,045,764 in federal aid funds. The project is expected by be completed by Dec. 31, 2029.

Among other consent agenda items includes:

n Approval of the application for the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery through Lee County Recovery and Resiliency Public Facilities and Critical Infrastructure Program

n Council will vote on establishing a policy, which will require a Utility Capital Expansion Fee Study at a minimum of every four years.

A public hearing will also be held for an ordinance regarding the Land Development Code in the South Cape District. This ordinance would allow the “count of on-street parking, parking in city parking areas, and sites owned, or operated by the city, or CRA, towards meeting minimum parking requirements.”

The meeting will be held Wednesday, May 1, at 4:30 p.m.. in Council Chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
