By Staff | Mar 14, 2024

PROVIDED

On Friday morning, at around 8:30 a.m., Dave Hersl with the city of Cape Coral’s Environmental Resources section of the Public Works Department, responded to calls made late Thursday afternoon around 4 p.m., from neighbors about an injured manatee in the Mast Canal.

Hersl said calling FWC was the right thing to do and that he would follow up with them. Callers in the neighborhood say they have yet to hear from FWC via phone or in person.

The manatee is not longer visible in the location originally reported.

Several neighbors along Mast Canal have called Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission to report an injured manatee.

The reported location in the waterway is the 300 block of Southeast 28th Terrace and 300 block of Kamal Parkway, about a city block from the construction site for the Tommy’s Car wash.

An FWC official said it will be sending a marine life biologist and that if the manatee can be rescued, it will be. City officials have been notified as well.
