A North Fort Myers man is in the Lee County Jail after being charged with multiple counts stemming from a break-in at the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce building.

According to a Cape Coral Police Department news release, Cape officers responded on Nov. 6 to a 1 a.m. call of a possible in-progress commercial burglary on the Chamber property at 2051 Cape Coral Parkway East.

According to the report, officers “observed a small pickup truck on scene and saw a broken window to the building.”

The officers heard someone inside the building and established a perimeter. They then found Anthony Marksimon Atkins, 37, on the property.

According to officials, the investigation revealed that Atkins allegedly attempted to cut the power to the building. The Chamber’s rear door had “visible pry marks” where Atkins may have unsuccessfully attempted to enter the building.

Atkins also allegedly damaged the front window where he entered the building. Officials believe he caused more than $1,000 in damage to the building during the burglary.

It is also believed that Atkins damaged a trailer on the property, causing an estimated $400 in damage. Atkins allegedly stole almost $2,000 worth of tools and other property from the trailer, later found in his truck.

Atkins was charged with the following:

• Burglary Dwelling/Structure Cause Damage $1,000-plus

• Criminal Mischief over $200

• Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance

• Grand Theft over $750 less than $5,000.

Atkins remains in jail, with a Dec. 11 court date.
