Town Halls with Superintendent set

By Staff | Aug 26, 2022

Dr. Christopher Bernier

The School District of Lee County will hold three Town Halls for families and community members.

Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier will share his vision, projects and priorities for the District.

The Town Halls are also an opportunity to discuss changes to the student enrollment process and how schools are assigned. The goal is to gather community input to help create a better school choice system for elementary and middle school families, district officials said. A Town Hall Event will be held in each zone. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend the event that is most convenient to them.

West Zone

Sept. 1; 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Caloosa Elementary, 620 Del Prado Blvd South, Cape Coral

South Zone

Sept. 8, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

San Carlos Park Elementary, 17282 Lee Road, Fort Myers

East Zone

Sept. 15, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Tortuga Preserve Elementary, 1711 Gunnery Road. N, Lehigh Acres

“I am excited to get out and hold these introductory events to meet as many of our parents and community members as possible,” said Bernier in a prepared statement. “We also look forward to hearing their ideas for creating a better student enrollment system. Their input is a critical part of the process to improve upon what we have and create a stronger connection between our schools and our communities.”

Based on the feedback provided at the Town Halls, a draft plan for student enrollment is expected to be presented to the School Board in November. Public comment at the November meeting will be used to refine the plan before another chance for public comment in December and approval in January.
