Cape Coral seeking input from residents having issues with internet speeds

By Staff | Nov 16, 2021

Faced with a challenge from existing providers, the city of Cape Coral is seeking information from residents unhappy with their internet speed.

The city submitted a request for federal grant funding to expand broadband services in August but current service providers have challenged the city’s request stating their service currently meets the minimum acceptable levels of 25 mbps download speed and 3 mbps upload speed, officials said.

“We are asking our residents living in the areas designated on the attached map to help us, help you,” city officials said in a release. “We need data from our residents that shows the actual download and upload speeds of their internet service. The easiest way to obtain these speeds is to perform an internet speed test.

“An internet speed test measures the speed between your device and a test server, in this case using your home internet connection. It is an evaluation of your existing broadband parameters. There are many speed test applications and websites you may use to perform the test.”

Officials say it should take less than 5 minutes to run the test and then submit the numbers to the city.

To enter your results visit: https://egov.capecoral.gov/speedtest – there will be a form for you to enter your address and your upload and download speeds.
