Lee School District mask opt-out form now on line

By Staff | Aug 10, 2021

The School District of Lee County mask-opt-out form is now available to parents and student guardians online.

The district has made masks mandatory but, in compliance with Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order and new Parental Bill of Rights legislation, parents may choose to opt their child out of the requirement.

The introduction to the form, which asks for basic student information including name, grade and teacher, states:

The School District of Lee County will require face coverings as a mitigation measure as we begin the 21-22 academic year, but will allow parents or guardians to opt their child out of wearing a face covering or mask.

The Florida Governor’s Executive Order Number 21-175 directs that any actions taken by school districts comply with the Parents’ Bill of Rights, codified in Sections 1014.02 – 1014.06, Fla. Stat., and “protect parents’ rights to make decisions regarding masking of their children in relation to COVID-19.” The School District of Lee County recognizes the fundamental right of parents to direct the health care decisions for their child(ren).

In that light, we are asking parents to please fill out this form if you DO NOT wish for your student to be required to wear a mask while in the care of the School District of Lee County.
