Cape Coral Charity Car Show

Benefit for Caring Center to feature cars, trucks, Jeeps and even large model airplanes

Car-lovers throughout Southwest Florida can gather this weekend for a charity show filled with classics, moderns and more.

The fifth annual Cape Coral Charity Car Show hits Sun Splash Family Waterpark this Saturday and is sponsored by Cape Coral First United Methodist Church. The event, expected to be packed with hundreds of makes, models and styles, runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Cape Coral Caring Center. Last year, the show raised more than $35,000 for the local food pantry and has raised more than $100,000 since the show’s inception.

“It’s a nice family outing and charitable event,” said organizer Phil Deems. “The Cape Coral Caring Center supports our local community here.”

This is the first year the show will take place at Sun Splash, as it is usually held at Jaycee Park. This year’s venue will offer additional acreage for a show that draws hundreds of vehicles and thousands of spectators.

“It’s going to be an upgrade,” Deems said. “It’s going to be easier to park cars and keep things more organized with more space.

“There’s a pent-up demand for an open-air-family-type event, and we’re happy to be able to put it on.”

Any year car or truck is invited to the show. Last year the event saw 250 cars and this year there will be a large display of model airplanes as well. There will be a Tribute to the Military at noon, DJ playing ’50s and ’60s music, food, 50/50 drawings, a church bake sale and great door prizes. There will be many additional vendors, plus information booths for the charity and church sponsor. Goody bags and dash plaques go to the first 100 show vehicles. There will be more than 25 trophies for show vehicles. Trophy winners will be selected by co-sponsors.

“Bring your car or truck (either show vehicle or daily driver) and bring your family for a fun day,” Deems said.

For safety reasons, vehicle participants are asked to stay until 3 p.m.

He also noted the Cape Coral Caring Center, which delivers 14 tons of food to 5,000 families annually, can turn a $1 donation into $8 worth of food, making donations even more impactful.

There is a $20 day-of-show entry fee and $5 parking for spectators.

Sun Splash Family Waterpark is at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd.
