A flag retirement box was recently installed outside of Cape Coral City Hall, which is located 1015 Cultural Park Blvrd. Residents can drop their old American flags in the box for proper retirement without having to leave their vehicles. Flags also can be taken to any fire station in the city.

According to the United States flag code, flags should be burned when they are no longer fit to be flown. The newly opened Brotherhood of Heroes Resource Center and Military Museum at 4522 Del Prado Blvd., and the American Legion, at 1401 S.E. 47th St., also collect the flags to be burned.
