Locals hold Biden Harris rally on Matlacha Bridge

Residents gathered Sunday, Sept. 27, on the Matlacha Bridge for a rally organized by local ROAR (Rise Up/Organize/Agitate/Resist) members. The rally, which was scheduled to take place from 9-10 a.m. drew 100 supporters, with 87 waving signs, which was even more than what had been expected, according to local ROAR member Susan McGuire.

“Today’s rally, is a rally in favor of the Biden/Harris ticket,” said McGuire. “It’s a rally in favor of decency and integrity. It’s a rally in favor of worker’s rights. It’s a rally of income equality, and a rally in favor of our Democratic foundational values.”

McGuire, who said there are more rallies planned before election day, said ROAR is working in coordination with them. The information, she said, is better circulated in-house, to avoid antagonism from people with opposing views.

“Since about 1792, people have come out and written and rallied and campaigned for their candidate — for what they saw to be their side. This year should not be any different,” said McGuire
