Early voting suspended; city elections to be postponed

By Staff | Sep 6, 2017

Early voting for Cape Coral and Fort Myers municipal elections has been suspended and a request to postpone Tuesday’s primary elections is awaiting approval by Gov. Rick Scott.

“We suspended early voting until further notice so we can get the equipment secured for the storm,” said Lee County Supervisor of Elections Tommy Doyle. “City managers in both Cape Coral and Fort Myers agree with postponing the Primary.”

It’s also up to the governor to reschedule the Primary which Doyle hopes will be in perhaps 10 days.

“The law says 10 days or whatever is practical,” said Doyle. “We have to go through a process to assess the damages, but I hope we don’t have any.”

Resuming early voting before the rescheduled Primary Election day will be up to the cities.

“Cape Coral indicated they would like three more days,” Doyle said.
