Eagle cruises to win 77th

By Staff | Aug 15, 2012

It was the local Realtor beating the local Realtor.

Dane Eagle cruised to an easy win Tuesday over Chris Berardi in the Republican primary for the State Representative 77th District race.

Eagle will face Democrat Arvella M. Clare in the general election Nov. 6.

Eagle, a real estate broker, won by an almost 3-1 margin, 72 percent to 28 percent.

Berardi, a former Cape Coral city councilman who also once ran for county commissioner, was outspent in his bid for the nomination and expressed his frustration over the process.

“Elections can be bought. He had outside influences and lobbyists,” Berardi said. “I can’t support someone who worked for Charlie Crist against Marco Rubio and has not shown conservative leanings in any of his public positions.”

Berardi thanked his supporters and said he respected the voters’ decision.

Berardi said he will support Mitt Romney for president, Connie Mack for Senate, and Trey Radel for the U.S. House.

Eagle, 29, who worked as the youngest deputy chief of staff in state history under Crist, was unavailable for comment.
