FDOT Traffic Advisory | Expect road, ramp closures as the Diverging Diamond Interchange at the I-75 at State Road 884/Colonial Boulevard enters its final stage
FDOT will begin implementation of the Diverging Diamond Interchange at the I-75 at State Road 884/Colonial Boulevard interchange on Friday. The final implementation requires a phased closing all interchange ramps and Colonial Boulevard between Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue and Forum Boulevard to motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.
On July 12 at 9 p.m., crews will close the on-ramps from Colonial Boulevard to I-75 northbound and to I-75 southbound. Pedestrian and bicycle access on Colonial Boulevard will be closed from Six Mile Cypress Parkway to Forum Boulevard. Then, on the next day at 2 p.m. until Sunday, July 14 at 2 p.m., crews will close the interchange off-ramps between I-75 and Colonial Boulevard, and crews will also close Colonial Boulevard between Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue and Forum Boulevard.
Pedestrian and bicycle access will remain closed until Monday, July 15 at 6 a.m.
The closure allows crews to place the travel lanes into the final configuration including lane restriping, installation of signage, and traffic signals.
During the closure, I-75 north- and southbound motorists will use the State Road 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit (Exit 138) and Ortiz Avenue or Forum Boulevard to reach Colonial Boulevard. Colonial Boulevard motorists wishing to continue on Colonial will use Ortiz Avenue to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Forum Boulevard to circumvent the interchange area. Motorists should follow the posted detour signs; or find alternate routes.
Motorists should exercise caution through the detour area and anticipate delays.
Upon opening on Sunday, July 14, drivers will be traveling in the final DDI configuration with signage and pavement markings guiding motorists through the interchange.
