KidsFest set for Saturday at Cape Coral High School

By MEGHAN BRADBURY - | Jan 19, 2023

For the first time since COVID, the Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral will host their first event, KidsFest, a day of fun for children and parents to enjoy, at Cape Coral High School.

“We haven’t been able to do it for two years. We are definitely looking forward to it,” Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral President Vanessa Silva said about KidsFest.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Cape Coral High School, 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd. The event features free admission and free hot dogs, water and chips for kids 12 and younger. Canned food donations are encouraged and there is a $2 per vehicle parking donation.

The $2 donations will benefit both the Boy Scouts and Cape Fear, a nonprofit that provides a volleyball team for girls in Cape Coral.

The event will feature the Kiwanis Club’s regular obstacle courses, bounce houses and activities for the children. In addition, Silva said they are bringing back their performances, all children performance teams from the city.

“We are excited to have them back,” she said.

KidsFest also will feature vendors, which are either nonprofits or health educational related. For instance, she said dental offices come to showcase how to properly brush your teeth. In addition, Lee Health will bring its bus, which has a hand washing station.

“After they wash their hands it shows the germs that still remain on their hands,” Silva said. It’s followed by teaching the kids how to properly wash their hands with soap.

KidsFest also attracts vendors that provide education about nutrition, which includes the Golisano Children’s Hospital bus. She said the children’s health information is great for children and their parents.

The event will also include tug of war, pie smashing contest and hula hoop competitions and prizes.

KidsFest is an event where parents and children can both interact and learn together.

“That’s really our goal for the event,” Silva said about offering something for the children to come out and do, while interacting with their parents.

Carol Culliton of the Gunterberg Charitable Foundation is the main sponsor of the event. Silva said she has been partnering with Kiwanis for more than a decade.
