Oasis Charter Schools receive ‘School System of Distinction’ award

The city of Cape Coral Oasis Charter Schools has received the coveted “School System of Distinction” award for the 2022 school year from COGNIA Global, a school accreditation network.

Oasis Charter Schools is one of 20 Florida schools to make it on this competitive international list. After rigorous examination, the “School System of Distinction” award is only given to schools that consistently exemplify excellence in education, effectively implement high-quality instruction, and demonstrate a sustained commitment to learners.

The Cape’s Oasis Charter Schools is the only K-12 school system in Cape Coral and touts a 100 percent graduation rate for its two elementary schools, middle school, and high school. Each Oasis school — Oasis Elementary North, Oasis Elementary South, Oasis Middle School and Oasis High School — consistently receives an “A” grade from the Florida Department of Education based on student performance.

Kid’s World Preschool opens up class for kindergarten children

Kid’s World Preschool, located at 1126 N.E. 16th Terrace, Cape Coral, is now offering enrollment for kindergarten students who have been displaced by Hurricane Ian.

With many elementary schools not reopening right away, Kid’s World Preschool is trying to help Cape Coral families by offering an alternative to traditional school with little to no cost. Parents who are interested in enrolling their child in Kid’s World kindergarten class can apply for a scholarship through Step Up For Students.

Families that qualify can have the full tuition of the class covered by the non-profit organization.

Henry graduates from Valdosta State University

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Dorothy Henry of Cape Coral has earned the bachelor of business administration in management from Valdosta State University.

Henry is among more than 600 students who completed their degree requirements during Summer Semester 2022.

Established in 1906, Valdosta State University is a comprehensive university that offers both extensive academic, cultural and social opportunities of a major university and the small classes and close, personal attention of smaller institutions. VSU boasts nearly 200 academic programs leading to associate, bachelor, master, specialist and doctoral degrees as well as options to add a certification, minor, endorsement or certificate to that degree.

Three finalists announced for FGCU presidential search

Three finalists have been announced in the search for Florida Gulf Coast University’s fifth president.

The finalists are:

— Robert G. Gregerson, Ph.D. – President, University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg

— Tod A. Laursen, Ph.D. – Acting President, SUNY Polytechnic Institute

— Susana V. Rivera-Mills, Ph.D. – Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Ball State University

Information submitted by the finalists as part of the application process can be found on FGCU’s presidential search website, https://www.fgcu.edu/presidentialsearch.

The next step in the search process is for FGCU to host public forums on campus for students, faculty, staff and community stakeholders to meet with the finalists. Details will be announced soon, but the sessions were scheduled to take place Oct. 12-14.

FGCU’s Board of Trustees were scheduled to conduct final interviews on Monday, Oct. 17, and a president-elect will go before the Board of Governors in November for confirmation.

According to the search timeline, the transfer of duties is expected to take place following President Mike Martin’s retirement at the end of the current calendar year.
