Lee Clerk to host free How-To class on the guardianship process

By Staff | Apr 30, 2024

Lee County Clerk and Comptroller Kevin Karnes is hosting a free class for the public to learn about the guardianship process through the court system.

The How-To class will be held on Wednesday, May 8 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the North Fort Myers Public Library, at 2001 North Tamiami Trail in North Fort Myers. The class will be held in Room B.

A guardianship exists when the court appoints a person (the guardian) to exercise all or some control over another individual’s person and/or property. The appointment is usually made when an individual is incapable of managing his or her own affairs.

During the class, attendees will learn the following:

• A brief overview of guardianship

• Who can and cannot be a guardian

• The various types of guardianship cases

• The process associated with each type of case

• Required forms & steps in filing/post hearing

• Available contacts & resources

The How-To class is free but registration is required. Anyone who would like to attend can register at leeclerk.org/seminar.

This class is part of the “How-To” series provided by the Lee Clerk’s office to educate the community about all of the resources available to them. Recorded tutorials of past “How-To” classes are available at leeclerk.org/howto.
