Cheers to a great day! Amber Martin, Stephanie Davis and Kendra Horan.

It was all in the name of a good cause, that Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties and GL Homes were lounging around on some of the 40 custom-made lounge chairs at Valencia Bonita in Bonita Springs. GL Homes donated the chairs to Habitat, which will sell them for a fraction of the retail price at Habitat’s ReStores. The GL Homes donation is valued at approximately $12,000.

Habitat’s ReStores are home improvement thrift stores and donation centers. ReStores sell quality merchandise, building materials and household items to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Proceeds are used for Habitat for Humanity programs.

As part of its Make a House a Home initiative, Florida homebuilder, GL Homes, donates high-quality, high-value, gently-used furniture and décor from its sales offices, model homes and clubhouses to Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout Florida. Nothing goes to waste.

Habitat for Humanity of Lee Counties, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, was created by a group called Lee County Mission Board, which broke ground on its first home in 1980. The group was officially chartered as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in 1982. In 1993, the first retail outlet was opened for the sale of donated household items to Habitat families and the general public. By 1995, Habitat for Humanity of Lee County celebrated its 100th home built and sold to local families. In 1999, the affiliate made the decision to expand into Hendry county, closing on its first Hendry County home in 2001.
