Bobby Nichols – Fiddlesticks Charity Foundation’s 21st Annual Nichols Cup raises $1 million and counting for local children’s charities

Four-day charity event raises $1 million for fifth consecutive year

By Staff | Mar 6, 2023

The Bobby Nichols – Fiddlesticks Charity Foundation wrapped up its 21st Annual Nichols Cup tournaments and auction gala at Fiddlesticks Country Club on Monday, Feb. 21, raising $1 million and counting in net revenue to serve abused and at-risk children in Southwest Florida.

To date, the annual fundraiser has raised more than $16 million in donations to support local children’s charities. The Foundation’s two primary charity partners are the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida and Abuse Counseling & Treatment. Additional beneficiaries include Blessings in a Backpack and Liberty Youth Ranch. With remaining funds raised from last year, the Foundation also named Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice and Pace Center for Girls, Lee as two additional beneficiaries.

The signature four-day charity event featured a pro-am golf tournament and tennis and pickleball tournaments, as well as a neighborhood fun-raiser, gala event, and live and silent auctions. Founded by longtime Fiddlesticks resident Bobby Nichols, winner of 14 PGA Tour tournaments, the PGA recognizes the Nichols Cup golf tournament as one of the most successful community-sponsored Pro-Am tournaments in the U.S.

“It is humbling and inspiring to look back and see how much of an impact we have made in 21 years, together with our neighbors,” said Nichols. “While attracting some of the greatest golfers, this Pro-Am is all about giving back – and does just that! Each year, we have continued to expand and find more ways to serve these children in Southwest Florida.”

Hosted by baseball Hall of Famer Johnny Bench and auctioneer Scott Robertson, 450 people attended the Saturday night fundraising gala, bidding on silent and live auction items. Top-selling auction items included a sunset cruise and dinner aboard the 133-foot “Driller II” yacht; a Masters golf package; a Calusa Pines Golf Experience; a Chanel pearl necklace; and a Yves Saint Laurent purse.

“It’s a true testament to the power of community and the power of philanthropy that we’ve been able to raise $1 million for the fifth consecutive year through our annual tournaments and community events,” said Bryan Simmering, vice president of the Bobby Nichols – Fiddlesticks Charity Foundation and resident of Fiddlesticks. “Every year, we are so grateful for how the community supports our mission to helping at-risk and abused children find hope and healing in our area.”
