AHVED Resource Center to host free community fairs in Fort Myers, Immokalee in support of Hurricane Ian victims

By Staff | Jan 30, 2023

The Association of Haitians Living Abroad for Development (AHVED) announces that it is hosting two free community fairs in support of Hurricane Ian victims. The first community fair will be held in in Fort Myers on Friday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3822 Broadway, Ste. C, Fort Myers. The second community fair will be held Immokalee on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1502 Lake Trafford Road, Immokalee.

Both community fairs will provide Hurricane Ian victims with help paying for past due rent and utilities. AHVED will also provide assistance applying for employment, Medicaid, Medicare, Food Stamps, and immigration benefits. Refreshments will be served at both events.

The public and media are invited to attend these free community fairs where victims of Hurricane Ian can receive the help they deserve to get back to normal. Staff at the resource centers speak Kreyol, Spanish and English which will help the most vulnerable population in the community navigate services available to help them pick up the pieces. These populations often experience barriers to services due to language and culture, but our center is here to alleviate that.

AHVED is proud to team up with the Florida Blue Foundation through a grant which made the community fairs and services possible. This is only the beginning of more services that we plan to provide the community in the future.

AHVED is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit network of Haitians, Haitian-Americans, Haitian émigrés, community organizers and their supporters. Founded in 2007, the organization was formed by a group of concerned Haitian-American professionals with the unified mission to empower all Haitians at home and abroad. The group embraces Haitian youth and help Haitian immigrants in the United States successfully integrate into American society by promoting education, positive activities for the youth, patriotism and social responsibility.
