CCFD gets temporary training space

Insite Managed Solutions provides future office space for practice drills

The future home of one Cape Coral business will serve as a way to keep others in the community safe.

Insite Managed Solutions, a global consulting firm specializing in improving corporate efficiencies while enhancing customer experience, has made its future office building available to the Cape Coral Fire Department for a series of intensive training exercises.

Located on Southeast 47th Street, the 16,000-square-foot building provides a rare opportunity for the department to conduct a myriad of training programs. The local setting duplicates the type of building materials and floor plan they might encounter when responding to an actual call in a commercial structure.

“Having a large commercial building such as this gives our firefighters the opportunity to train for an incident that his high risk/low frequency,” said CCFD Division Chief of Professional Standards Mark Solich. “Most of our structure fire calls are residential and don’t involve a large area to search. Utilization of the Insite facility allows our firefighters to practice with hazards specific to such a large structure.”

Chris Rozum, Insite founder and CEO, said the interior of their new headquarters was scheduled for a complete demolition and remodel. Gladstone Builders, local contractor handling the project, presented the innovative idea to Rozum.

“I used to be a volunteer fireman at Bay Shore,” said Michael Webster, the Gladstone construction superintendent in charge of the Insite project, in a release. “I know it’s really difficult to find buildings for firefighters to train in. So, when I saw the size of Insite’s building, I reached out to Insite and the fire department. Insite was more than willing to help. And the Cape Coral Fire Department was really happy to have the opportunity.”

Rozum was more than willing to lend a hand.

“Living and working here in Cape Coral, we are very thankful for the great job our fire department does. So, we thought we’d help out by letting the firefighters use our space for training purposes before demo starts,” he said in a release.

Solich said the department will be training in the areas of Large Area Search, HAZMAT and Hose Evolutions.

“Ultimately our goal is to increase proficiency. Having a large space to do this within our town is very rare. At the end of the day, it means we can provide a higher level of service to Cape Coral,” he said.

All 11 Cape Coral stations will be participating in the simulation drills. Trainees taking part range from experienced firefighters to new members who have recently joined the department. Walls, doors, and other materials will also be removed and donated to the City of Fort Myers Fire Department for training purposes there.

Operations will be ongoing at the Insite building until Nov. 30.
