95 single-family home permits

pulled in June in county

During June, contractors pulled 95 permits to build single-family houses collectively valued at more than $21.5 million in unincorporated Lee County. That compares to 88 permits issued in May and 94 issued in June 2013, according to the Lee County Department of Community Development.

Also during June, 83 multi-family units were permitted, compared to 173 in May and 29 in June 2013. These include a 65-unit apartment building, part of the Palazzo Del Sol development on Pamplona Run, southwest of McGregor Boulevard and Pine Ridge Road.

General commercial activity was valued at more than $5.3 million for 26 permits, compared to nearly $15 million in May and $8.5 million in June 2013. June’s commercial permits include a Chili’s restaurant, which is valued at $1.25 million, on an out-parcel of Gulf Coast Town Center.

Lee County Community Development issued 3,676 permits of all kinds during June.

Lee County Community Development oversees planning, zoning, development and building services, environmental review, building inspection, and code enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Lee County.

Realtors create meals

for families in need

NAPLES – Over 100 Realtors from Naples, Marco Island, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Fort Myers and Sanibel, as well as leaders from Florida Realtors, came together June 20 at Quail West Country Club to meet the candidates for the 2015 Florida Realtors board. The event also provided Florida Realtors President Sherri Meadows with an opportunity to discuss how Realtors can be involved in helping to combat the issue of homelessness across Florida.

After candidate speeches and Meadows presentation, everyone participated in a Meals of Hope meal packing event, which created 20,000 meals for families in need. Meadows and her team are traveling to boards across Florida in the official BELIEVE bus to raise awareness.

The Florida Realtors leadership team, including Meadows, President-elect Andrew Barbar, Vice President Matey Veissi, Treasurer Maria Wells and Secretary Christine Hanson, gave a group presentation on the state of homelessness in Florida. Here are some facts about homelessness in Florida as well as in the immediate area:

– 58 percent of Florida’s homeless were living in homes just one year prior to bring surveyed.

– There are 396 homeless in Collier and Hendry counties.

– 257 families, 17 veterans and 26 chronically homeless are currently in shelters in Southwest Florida.

– 1,123 students enrolled in public schools are homeless in Collier County.
