Cape Coral and the Southwest Florida area can expect to see rain and wind gusts this weekend capable of advising drivers to stay off bridges, according to National Weather Service meteorologists.

The NWS forecast for Saturday states wind gusts could reach nearly 40 mph Saturday night, with 100% chance of rain throughout the day.

When wind gusts reach 40 mph, Lee County officials strongly urge drivers to stay off bridges and roads leading to them.

Impactful weather is expected to continue at least until Sunday morning, as the NWS reports wind gusts also reaching near 40 mph. Rain and winds are expected to taper off into Sunday evening, though gusts could still reach 30 mph.

The forecast on Fort Myers Beach shows higher wind gusts than inland locations, with the potential to reach 43 mph between Saturday and Sunday.
