Two beach accesses on Fort Myers Beach are temporarily closed.

Lanark and Gulf Drive are undergoing restoration with sand that was displaced last week by Hurricane Idalia, town officials said.

The sand has been sifted and cleaned and is being stored at Newton Beach Park until it can be used.

Newton Beach Park is the site where the vegetation and shellfish that washed up on the beach after Hurricane Idalia is being stored temporarily after it is removed from the Beach.

“The vendor that is cleaning the beach so quickly and efficiently will be removing these piles,” a release from the own states. “It doesn’t smell particularly nice so you might want to avoid walking in that area until it’s cleaned.”
