The Cape Coral Police Department has released the identity of a man found shot to death outside his home Saturday morning.

Officers responding to a 4:28 a.m. call of shots fired found Fernando Batista Montero, 41, in the backseat of a vehicle in the driveway of his home at 1807 S.W. 10th Terrace. He had been shot multiple times and died at the scene, police said.

Callers reported hearing approximately 20 gunshots near the location.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that an altercation ended with Montero being shot and killed by a “known suspect” who fled before police arrived, a release from the CCPD issued Monday afternoon states.

Currently, this appears to be an isolated incident, the release states, adding that updates will be provided when available.
