Lee DOT to adjust speed limits on two roadways

By Staff | Aug 6, 2020

The Lee County Department of Transportation asks drivers to take note of two speed limit adjustments on separate roadways.

The speed limit adjustments are:

* Crystal Drive Speed Limit Increase

Lee County will increase the speed limit on Crystal Drive between US 41 and Metro Parkway to 35 mph from 30 mph. New speed limit signs are expected to be posted the week of Aug. 10. A speed study on this segment by Lee County DOT determined the appropriate speed for safe operations is 35 mph.

* Bass Road Speed Limit Decrease

Lee County will reduce the speed limit on Bass Road between Summerlin Road and Park Royal to 35 mph from 40 mph. New speed limit signs are expected to be posted the first week in September. A speed study on this road segment by Lee DOT determined the appropriate speed for safe operation is 35 mph.

Although speed enforcement is within the purview of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County DOT monitors crashes and speed incidents on all the roads it maintains.

Earlier this summer, the speed limit on Del Prado Boulevard from Coronado to Hancock Bridge Parkway was reduced to 40 mph from 45 mph for safety reasons. Studies showed that if the average speed on the road were reduced by 3 miles per hour, there would be a reduction of 15 to 20 injury crashes per year.
