By Staff | May 1, 2009

The National Head Start Association has announced that The Lee County School District’s Head Start/Early Head Start Program has been designated as a Program of Excellence. The award was presented on Wednesday, April 29, in Orlando during National Head Start Association’s 36th Annual Training Conference.

Lee County Public Schools Head Start/Early Head Start Program is one of only 23 programs of the more than 1,900 Head Start programs across the nation to receive this prestigious honor, and it’s one of only two that have achieved this honor five consecutive times.

Early Head Start serves families through both home-based and center-based programs. Lee County Head Start/Early Head Start maintains a high level of community involvement through its partnerships with community agencies and organizations, such as the Lee County Health Department, Cape Coral Kiwanis, area dentists, the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida and Child Care of Southwest Florida, just to name a few.
