Guinea coup leader solidifies his hold

CONAKRY, Guinea (AP) – A formerly unknown army captain solidified his hold over this broken nation Thursday, as the country’s prime minister surrendered, stepping down along with dozens of other government officials who served under the country’s late dictator.

In a radio broadcast Thursday, Capt. Moussa Camara repeated that he intends to hold elections no later than two years from now. In a move that appeared calculated to draw a distinction between himself and the past, Camara declared he had no intention of running in those elections. And he warned that he couldn’t be bought off.
