Advocate Radiation Oncology opens location in Cape Coral

Advocate Radiation Oncology, a locally owned and operated radiation oncology practice, has opened its Cape Coral office located at 909 Del Prado Blvd.

This facility joins Advocate facilities located in both Port Charlotte and Fort Myers.

Advocate Radiation Oncology is directed by a team of board-certified radiation oncologists: Drs. Alan Brown, Arie Dosoretz, Daniel Dosoretz, Amy Fox, Graciela Garton, Michael Katin, David Rice and James Rubenstein. The team of physicians, who trained at the nation’s most renowned institutions, have served the Southwest Florida community for decades and are partnering to provide compassionate health care expertise to cancer patients.

Patients at Advocate Radiation Oncology receive treatment close to home, including an individualized treatment plan using the most advanced technology available, including South-west Florida’s first Varian Halcyon machine at the Cape Coral practice. The Halcyon machine allows for extremely precise treatment while minimizing treatment time for each patient.

Other technology available at Advocate’s practices include the “True-Beam” IMRT linear accelerator, which is used to precisely target and destroy tumor cells in the body with radiation, SRS (Stereotactic Radiosurgery) and SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy) capabilities allowing for radiation plans that can be delivered in as few as one treatment, and high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy.

Advocate Radiation Oncology also offers fluent Spanish-speaking doctors and staff dedicated to bringing their family-focused care to all members of the Southwest Florida community.

Advocate Radiation Oncology now offers three convenient locations: 909 Del Prado Blvd. in Cape Coral (239-217-8070), 15681 New Hampshire Court in Fort Myers (239-437-1977) and 3080 Harbor Blvd. in Port Charlotte (941-883-2199).

Vascular & Vein Center offers alternative carotid artery disease surgery

The Vascular & Vein Center is now offering the newest innovative treatment for carotid artery disease (CAD) called Transcarotid Artery Revascularization, or more commonly, TCAR.

TCAR is a clinically proven, minimally invasive, advanced procedure that delivers a stent into a blocked carotid artery to treat CAD and prevent future strokes. Some of the benefits of utilizing the TCAR procedure over the formative procedure, Carotid Endartectomy or CEA, include a smaller incision and a faster recovery on top of it being a closed surgery.

Additionally, it reduces the risk of stroke during stent insertion.

Strokes are the fifth leading cause of death in the United States, and a leading cause of disability. With CAD being a leading cause of ischemic strokes, the new TCAR procedure eliminates more risk of stroke. All doctors at Vascular & Vein Center are certified in TCAR and are now performing this procedure.

Lee County Port Authority introduces Stay Safe – RSW Cares About You program

The Lee County Port Authority is introducing the Stay Safe – RSW Cares About You program to let the community know about initiatives taking place at Southwest Florida International Airport to keep travelers and the airport community healthy and safe.

There will be differences in the experience at RSW that were put into place to make passengers feel more comfortable and confident about traveling from our airport.

Some of the more noticeable measures passengers will see as part of the comprehensive plan are the addition of hand sanitizer stations; social distancing signage, announcements and floor markers throughout the terminal; Plexiglas shields at all customer touchpoints and the use of masks in public areas.

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, LCPA implemented increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in high-traffic areas of the terminal and car rental facility to include ticket counters, baggage claim and restrooms, as well as the concourses and gate hold areas at Southwest Florida International Airport. Janitorial staff also performs disinfectant fogging several evenings a week at security checkpoints, ticket counters and gate hold areas.
