Massage therapist joins Dr. Mel’s Wellness Spa

Dr. Mel Youngs, D.C., P.A. has announced one of the newest additions to her healthcare team, Ellise El-Amin, a licensed massage therapist. El-Amin has been a massage therapist since 2018 and has the experience and skills to help patients with a variety of health problems.

She is trained to relieve headaches, muscle tension, back and neck pain and more. She specializes in deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy.

El-Amin is among 13 highly skilled licensed massage therapists at Dr. Mel’s Chiropractic Office & Wellness Spa. The office is located in downtown Cape Coral and is open six days a week.

Eye Centers of Florida welcomes Toomey

Sara Toomey, OD, born and raised in Cape Coral, has joined Eye Centers of Florida. Toomey recently completed an ocular disease residency at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, ranked the top eye hospital in the United States in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals issue.

Toomey completed an undergraduate degree at University of Florida in Gainesville and then attended Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in vision science and a doctorate in optometry.

She received valuable clinical training through internships at Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center Optometry Clinic in Gainesville, Florida, and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. She also completed rotations in pediatrics and specialty contact lenses as a student doctor at the Eye Care Institute at Nova Southeastern University.

Toomey has published and presented research at several national industry meetings and given numerous lectures on eye health. She maintains memberships in Southwest Florida Optometric Association, Florida Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. She enjoys participating in community vision screenings and promoting diabetes awareness.

Florida Skin Center to provide free skin checks

Florida Skin Center will host Check It! Day Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at its Fort Myers Office at 13691 Metropolis Ave. The annual event provides complimentary adult and pediatric skin checks for the general public.

Performed by a Florida Skin Center doctor or physician assistant, the full-body skin checks will address and treat common skin conditions, such as warts, molluscum and precancerous spots, as well as prescribe needed medications and screen for cancer detection.

Anyone interested in obtaining a free skin exam is welcome, and screenings will be performed on a first-come, first-served basis. Skin care vendors will be on-site to provide educational training about skin health and wellness and will conduct product demonstrations.

Light refreshments will be served. The entire family will enjoy entertainment by DJ Cease and can have their photos taken in the photo booth, as well as participate in raffle prizes and giveaways.
