Fair named administrator for Palmview facility

Gulf Coast Village, a Cape Coral Continuing Care Retirement Community, has hired seasoned health care leader Jackie Fair as administrator for Palmview, a 130,980-square-foot assisted living and memory care facility.

Palmview offers 80 assisted living and 48 memory support residences, and is part of Gulf Coast Village’s full continuum of care for adults over age 62. Gulf Coast Village features independent living, assisted living, specialized memory support, skilled nursing, home health and rehabilitation services.

Since opening in 2017, Palmview has gained a strong reputation across Southwest Florida for its mix of engaging opportunities that encourage an active lifestyle and enrich residents’ daily experiences.

As administrator, Fair will be responsible for maintaining an atmosphere of caring in which Palmview residents can embrace moments with purpose and joy, offering a greater sense of freedom and self-esteem.

Fair previously served as executive director with The LaSalle Group and was responsible for oversight of Autumn Leaves of Estero, a family-owned and operated assisted living memory care community. Prior positions include executive director for Brookdale Senior Living, executive director and senior resident care director for Emeritus Senior Living, and health and wellness director for Brookdale Senior Living.

Fair earned an associate degree from Lorain County Community College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse after completing her studies at Central School of Practical Nursing in Ohio. She is credentialed through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners and has completed advanced training and education through the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and Assisted Living Federation of America.

Dr. Mel Youngs, D.C., P.A., has announced that, Adonis Ynfante, licensed massage therapist, is the newest addition to her healthcare team.

Ynfante has been a massage therapist since 2011 and has the experience and skills to help patients with a variety of health problems. He is trained to relieve headaches, muscle tension, back and neck pain and more. He specializes in sports massage, migraine release, deep tissue, and cupping.

Florida Skin Center launches topical compound and oral dispensary

Florida Skin Center has developed a dispensary program to administer its most-used, provider-selected, topical compound and oral medications from Prescriber’s Choice and PD-Rx Pharmaceuticals. This will save the average patient (called guest) between 49% and 61%.

The dermatology practice’s Cape Coral office is a fully operational dispensary that can provide 32 different medications – including those from its on-site Acne Clinic – to guests immediately following their appointment or within three to seven business days via mail. These medications can also be sent to Florida Skin Center’s Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres and Punta Gorda locations for guests’ convenience.

All medications within the dispensary are produced using FDA-approved national drug code ingredients and custom prepared for each guest’s skin condition, while accounting for allergens and irritants. They include psoriasis and rosacea creams; acne gels and moisturizing cream; Clindamycin and Doxycycline. This antibiotic normally costs $415 and retails for as much as $748, but Florida Skin Center is selling it for $55.

The cost for this and other medications is generally less than a commercial insurance or Medicare copay. Guests can also submit these costs to their Health Savings or Flexible Spending accounts.

Three Lee Health hospitals earn highest marks for safe infant sleep

Southwest Florida parents can rest easy knowing their infants are sleeping well at three Lee Health Certified Safe Sleep Champion hospitals.

Cape Coral Hospital, Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida and HealthPark Medical Center recently earned the highest possible gold-level certification from the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program for their commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep. The hospitals are three of 10 in Florida to earn gold certification.

The National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program is a national program created by Cribs for Kids, a Pittsburgh-based organization dedicated to preventing infant, sleep-related deaths due to accidental suffocation. More than 3,500 infants are lost to sleep-related deaths in the U.S. each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

An unsafe sleep environment can be created when babies share their beds with either another person or with excess blankets or toys. Suffocation occurs when a baby isn’t able to breathe because it’s lying in a position where something is blocking the baby’s airflow. This can be caused by an adult or child rolling over onto the baby. It can also occur if something soft, such a blanket, pillow, sheet or the mattress itself blocks the baby’s airway.

A simple way to prevent this is to follow the ABC method for creating a safe sleep environment. These stand for:

* A Alone. Infants should always sleep alone. Have baby share your room, not your bed.

* B On their Back. Place your baby on his or her back for all sleep times naps and at night

* C In a Crib. Use a firm sleep surface, such as a mattress in a safety-approved crib.
