Giovannelli earns Certified Board Member distinction

The School District of Lee County has announced that Lee County School Board Member Melisa Giovannelli has earned the distinction of Certified Board Member from the Florida School Boards Association.

To earn this distinction, members must complete 96 hours of training in three different content areas. The bulk of this training falls under Boardsman-ship, School Finance, Policy Governance, Bargaining and Personnel, Curriculum and Instruction, State/Federal Legislative Processes, and School Law.

Fellow Lee County School Board members Debbie Jordan, Chris Patricca and Cathleen Morgan also have the distinction of being Certified Board Members. The Certified Board Member distinction is one of several professional development programs offered by the Florida School Boards Association to ensure board members obtain well-rounded and thorough understanding of his or her policy-making job responsibilities.

The Florida School Boards Association is the professional association for school boards in Florida. The mission of FSBA is to increase student achievement through the development of effective school board leadership and advocacy for public education.

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida receives $15,000 grant from Truist Foundation

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida recently received a $15,000 grant from the Truist Foundation to help further its work and career readiness programs for middle and high school students throughout Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties.

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida partners with classroom business volunteers to deliver lessons on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship to students at both public and private schools as well as after school programs and special at-risk groups.

The organization is currently preparing for its second and third JA Inspire events, which provide eighth graders the rare opportunity to explore potential career paths and connect with local employers for the high-wage and high-demand jobs in their community.
