Cape Coral’s history
Downtown Cape Coral has grown from the original collection of businesses that were established along Cape Coral Parkway and Del Prado Boulevard when the community that was to become a city was first built. To meet the commercial area’s infrastructure needs such as parking and sidewalks, the city designated the Downtown as a Community Redevelopment Area in 1987. Since its designation, millions of dollars have been invested in the area’s streets, sidewalks, sewers and parking areas. This year, the Cape Coral City Council laid the foundation for the next level: A center of town that would be a vibrant urban village where people of all ages will live, work, shop and be entertained.
