FHSAA Championships
Cape Coral’s Daniel Lynn won the FHSAA state individual championship Thursday at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando.
Lynn entered the boys’ bracket seeded 12th of 16 bowlers, but swept through the bracket to take the title.
Included in those wins was a 2-1 victory over No. 1 seed Lincoln Moyer of Edgewood and a 2-1 semifinal win against Mariner’s Trey Lemus. Lynn topped Francis Johnson of Orlando East River 2-0 in the championship matchup.
Lemus wound up third overall, losing 2-0 to Johnson in the consolation final.
Cape Coral’s girls team finished eighth, losing in the fourth consolation round.
SWIMMING
Region 3A-3
Terry Jacob of North Fort Myers advanced to the FHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday with second-place finishes in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events at the FGCU Aquatic Center.
He’s not alone. Aayden Dugan of Cape Coral came in second in the 100-yard backstroke.
In the girls competition, the Seahawks’ Emma Best finished second in the 100 butterfly.
There may be more local swimmers joining them in Ocala. Besides the top two in each individual event, eight more competitors will be selected based on their performances at the four area meets.
Daynna Franklyn of Cape was third in the girls 50 free, giving her a chance at a wild-card spot. Cape Coral’s 200 medley relay team may or may not be heading to Ocala. Only the region champions automatically qualify, but Cape’s second-place finish leaves them in good position to be among the 12 wild-card invitees.
All four region meets were completed, so the FHSAA should release the full field for state in short order.
The FHSAA Championships for Class 3A are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8.
Meanwhile, the District 1A-9 meet, including Oasis and Bishop Verot, was held Tuesday. However, the FHSAA will not release those results until Saturday, once District 1A-7 and District 1A-8 have completed their meets.
The Class 1A state meet is Friday, Nov. 15.
