GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bishop Verot 42, Palmetto Ridge 12: Cameron O’Halloran scored 15 points to lead the Vikings to a victory in the season opener. Reese Fry added 11 points for Bishop Verot.

Cape Coral 48, Oasis 38: Emma Osinski and Brynn Stambaugh scored 15 points each for the Sharks.

Gateway 63, Island Coast 25: The Gators lost their season opener.

Naples 56, Mariner 40: Naples jumped out to a big halftime lead (38-17) in defeating the Tritons.

Marco Island Academy 48, North Fort Myers 17: MIA rolled past the Red Knights as both teams began their season.

Ida Baker 49, Dunbar 11: Baker opened the year with a dominant victory.

GIRLS SOCCER

Mariner 8, Bishop Verot 0: Stephanie Saracione scored four times and made an assist for the Tritons (3-0). Ryleigh Acosta had two goals and two assists, while Gloria Quintanilla and Caroline Pelfoski contributed a goal and an assist each. Adding assists were Sophia Vianest, Sara Paddock and Kelsi Longabardi. Sierra Ingram and Lataya Simmons had three saves in goal each.

Cape Coral 3, Canterbury 2: The Seahawks are off to a 1-0 start with Tuesday’s victory.

Evangelical Christian 5, Ida Baker 1: The Bulldogs dropped their first match of the season (0-1).

Gateway 2, Island Coast 1: Gateway edged out the Gators (0-2, 0-1 District 4A-12).

North Fort Myers 0, Barron Collier 0 (tie): The scoreless draw left the Red Knights 1-0-1.

Oasis 9, Gateway Charter 0: Oasis is 3-0 after a dominating victory against the Griffins. Samantha Chitu had a hat trick, and Neveah Rogers scored twice and made an assist. Alyssa Neuhausel, Ashley Lynn, Ariana Suarez, Maddison Davis and Annabella scored a goal each. Angelina Acevedo-Montalvo, Kamryn Fowler, Erin Vezzola and Madison Boyko contributed assists.

BOYS SOCCER

Oasis 8, Gateway Charter 0: Tyler Kerr scored four goals and made four assists to lead the 2-1 Sharks. Mario Acosta had a hat trick plus an assist, and Caden Bly picked up his first goal of the season while making two assists. Two freshman goalies, Josh Hill and Lucas Pruett, combined for the shutout.

Mariner 4, Bishop Verot 0: Freshman Justin Medero scored twice to pace the Tritons (2-1). Maximo Gorosito and Adrian Burgos also had goals for Mariner. Jacob Glover made two saves in net.

Ida Baker 2, Charlotte 0: Tuesday’s road victory evened the Bulldogs’ record at 1-1.

Gateway 5, Island Coast 0: The shutout loss left the Gators 1-1 on the young season.

Barron Collier 6, North Fort Myers 0: The Red Knights are off to an 0-2-1 start.
