Class 2S Region 4 Playoffs

Bishop Verot 42, Mulberry 0: The Vikings, the top seed in 2S-4, had no trouble in their playoff opener. Bishop Verot (8-2) got points from a variety of players. Fidel Alviar, Jeremiah Dean and Deshon Jenkins had rushing touchdowns in the first half, while Ryan Gadson cashed in a 75-yard punt return for a TD. Up 28-0 at the half, Vikings quarterback Carter Smith hit Tookie Watts for a 55-yard pass to set up his own scoring run. Trevantay Watts caught a 38-yard pass from Smith for the Vikings’ final score of the evening. Next up for Bishop Verot will be Clewiston, which pulled out a 29-27 win against Fort Meade.

GIRLS SOCCER

Mariner 5, Venice 0: Eva Ramirez scored twice for the Tritons in Mariner’s season opener, while Ariana McIntrye and Kelsi Longabardi had a goal and an assist each. Carly Paz, Ryleigh Acosta and Marlee Gretz each contributed an assist.
