Wednesday’s Mets-Mussels game postponed

FORT MYERS – Wednesday’s game between the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels and St. Lucie Mets was postponed due to thunderstorms at Hammond Stadium.

The game was scheduled to be made up as part of a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Both games were seven innings.

All tickets to Wednesday’s game can be exchanged for a ticket to any other Mussels game in 2022.

The regular season ends for the Mighty Mussels with games tonight, Saturday and Sunday against the Mets.

The Mussels, which won the West Division in the first half of the season, open playoff action Tuesday on the road against the winner of the second half.

Ober leads Mussels

to 5-0 shutout of Mets

FORT MYERS – Minnesota Twins rehabber Bailey Ober led the Mighty Mussels to a shutout of the St. Lucie Mets at Hammond Stadium Tuesday.

Ober, rehabbing a groin injury, allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings, fanning three and walking one.

Develson Aria made his Fort Myers debut and fanned three over two hitless innings, keeping the game scoreless into the seventh. Jackson Hicks (5-3) went the final three innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five.

In a scoreless game in the bottom of the seventh, Rubel Cespedes singled with one out. The next batter was Keoni Cavaco, who torched a two-run homer to left at 106 mph off the bat. Cavaco’s dinger was his 10th of the season, the third Mussels hitter to reach double digits.

The Mussels’ offense didn’t stop there. After a hit batter, a walk and a Noah Miller single loaded the bases with two outs, Noah Cardenas pulled a bases clearing double down the left field line to cap the scoring at 5-0.
